FDA is giving major e-cigarette manufacturers 60 days to prove they can prevent youth vaping. Companies such as Juul, Vuse, MarkTen XL, Blue and Logic are required to submit plans to the FDA as to how they plan to prevent their products from getting in teenagers’ hands. If the FDA doesn’t find their plans satisfactory, the companies may be forced to remove their products from the market. These five companies alone make up more than 97 percent of the US market

Study reveals popularity of e-cigarettes on college campus. A study conducted at Dartmouth College revealed that out of the 862 students that were surveyed, 11 percent use a Juul frequently and 10 percent use a Juul sometimes. 10 percent of students claim to own a Juul, and 41 percent of students have tried a Juul.
Kid friendly flavors attract younger users. Juul pods come in flavors like Cool Mint, Fruit Medley and Mango. “Nearly 9 out of 10 Wisconsin youth say they probably wouldn’t try an e-cigarette if it wasn’t flavored.”
E-cigarettes have led to an increase in youth tobacco use. “Research suggests that youth are up to seven times more likely to use other forms of tobacco if they use e-cigarettes like Juul.”
Research has shown that e-cigarette use can assist in smoking cessation. Studies including over 600 people have shown that e-cigarettes increase the chances of stopping smoking in the long run. E-cigarettes with nicotine were shown to be more effective in stopping smoking compared to e-cigarettes without nicotine.
Social media phenomenon. Juul users are not scared to show off their device. They have a significant social media presence through outlets such as YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, increasing Juul’s exposure to young people.
Each Juul pod contains 200 puffs and on average costs less than a pack of cigarettes. For college students worried about their funds, using a Juul may be a more cost-effective habit.
First-year students have the highest rate of Juul ownership. According to a Dartmouth College study, 11 percent of first year respondents admitted to owning a Juul.
